강아지와 사람의 유대관계 (10)

 

강아지와 오래 같이 생활하면, 가족이다. 똑 같은 가족의 구성원이다. 오히려 떨어져 살고 있는 가족 보다 더 소중한 존재이다.

 

예를 들어 부모와 형제가 서로 떨어져 사는 경우, 예를 들면, 가족이 분가하여 미국과 영국, 베트남에서 각각 살고 있다고 가정하자.

 

그들은 서로 볼 기회도 거의 없고, 전화 통화도 점차 하지 않게 된다. 가족이지만, 이러한 가족보다는 이웃 사촌이 더 가까워진다.

 

강아지는 이웃 사촌과는 비교도 되지 않는다. 24시간 붙어 있다. 사촌이 땅을 사면 배가 아프지만, 강아지가 행복해 하면, 주인은 더 행복해 한다.

 

이처럼 소중한 강아지가 나이 들어 주인을 떠났을 때, 혼자 남겨진 주인의 슬픔은 이루 말할 수 없다. 사랑하는 강아지가 떠나면, 강아지는 어디로 가서, 무엇을 하고 있을까?

 

아무도 알 수 없고, 과학적으로 증명은 되지 않는 일이지만, “무지개 다리” 설화가 있다. 이야기가 있다. 지구촌 사람들이 믿고 있는 ‘강아지 이야기’가 있다.

 

인터넷에서 ‘무지개 다리’에 관한 글을 보았다. 굳이 번역하고 싶지 않다. 이런 글은 영어로 읽어야 제 맛이 나기 때문이다.
